This month, legislation known as the
HR4040--the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA)-- is supposed to go into effect. Passed by Congress in August of 2008, this bill was aimed at protecting our children from toys containing lead and phthalates and addressing other safety issues. However, parts of this bill will directly effect all small handmade toy makers, designers and store owners in a way that will put many of them out of business. The CPSIA rules now requires all children's products, including natural handmade toys and clothing to be tested by a Third Party Lab, often at a cost of up to $4,000 per item. That could cost a small company more than $20,000 a season. You can learn more at www.handmadetoyalliance.org

Join us as we speak with experts about the details of this bill, and learn more about how it may affect your small business.

We'll have plenty of networking time, as well as light food and beverages available. Because this is a business-focused event with outside panelists, we ask that adults only are in attendance, with the exception of nursing babies.
